The Kotton Kandy Kit Dollhouse

Today, I did the Kotton Kandy downstairs floor, molding, and stone porch floor.
For the downstairs floor I tried something new. First, I measured out the grid for my planks right on the kit floor. I then took a little screwdriver with a pointed tip and went over my lines. It created a nice shadow line.
I painted the floor with a half black/half brown paint mix.
I added some highlights in the wood and a couple of coats of gloss.
I put the top molding and the finished ceiling up. Both were done with my hot glue technique. All I do is make draw a design and follow those lines with the hot glue. A few coats of paint and it looks just like tin!
This house reminds me more of a New Orleans house then a Gustavian! I might have to change my title for this one.
I still need to paint the bottom molding and glue it in place.

I applied the concrete porch floor. I used an artist spatula to spread a thin coat of concrete.
This is the stuff I use. You can get it at any home improvement store. The question I get most often is whether this makes the dollhouse too heavy. It doesn't. I use thin layers most of the times. But even when I carve out full size rocks the weight is not an issue at all.
After a little smoothing out, I use an old exacto knife to draw the stones.
The next step will be to add color to the stone.

Kotton Kandy Dollhouse: A Gustavian Style

I put the bits of ripped wallpaper on the Kotton Kandy house walls. I used white glue with a little water to stick it on.
The paper is a nice dark cream color. So it already looks antiqued. It's a very romantic wallpaper pattern with pink roses. I got the paper off the internet and printed it out in a small scale.
I have done my ceiling and top moldings. I'll share those tomorrow.

Kotton Kandy Dollhouse: A Gustavian Style

I decided to paint the outside of the Kotton Kandy dollhouse. I wanted to give it a Gustavian Swedish style. So I mixed black, blue and white paint to get a deep gray color.
I already added some aging effects with cream, golden brown and tan.
I also painted the windows. First, with a coat of white and then some cream and gray.
I  painted the upstairs window to get a little bit of a stain glass look. I kept it very simple without color. First, I painted the design on with black paint and then I used silver.
I got the idea for these colors in a magazine. I just loved the contrast of the gray and white.
I used the shutter color as my house color.
I'll use the light gray on the porch floor.

The Kotton Kandy Kit Dollhouse

I bought the Kotton Kandy kit dollhouse. The quality is amazing!

I want to stick to a very shabby and very romantic look. Maybe a little of the Gustavian gray/blue style with some shabby chic whites, pinks and roses.

I've started playing around with the walls.
My first coat of paint was a brown and black mix for a very old and grungy first layer.
Next, I painted a very thick layer of cream paint.
I'm thinking about layering some more neutral colors.
But first I might add little pieces of ripped romantic roses wallpaper with plaster to cover the edges.
The ceiling has a coat of cream. It'll probably be covered with little faux tin tiles.
Now, I need the courage to stick on the wallpaper! I suppose if it doesn't turn out I can always sand it off. More later!

Little Houses and Bags

I'm so into fabrics right now. I have these times of the year when I have to replenish my fabric stash and sew, sew, sew! My favorite fabrics, beside the tea stained and soft pastel of my shabby chic style, are by Tanya Whelan. I love all the roses and polka dots. I decided to make little houses villages inspired by those designs.

I've also done a couple more totes. Just to help someone look snazzy and whimsical when they go shopping!
This one is tea stained, with a hand painted nest, pearls, roses and buttons.

This one is pink with tulle and roses. You can check them out at my shop.

I'm also gathering many ideas for the next dollhouse. I have a feeling it's going to be right along the lines of these bags. All girlie, shabby chic and whimsical!
