A touch of Provence: French Stone and Stucco Cottage Dollhouse Paintings

Today, I put up the curtains and paintings.

Some of these I printed off the internet like the Cezanne ones. Others I painted myself.

I changed the gingham fabric of the real restaurant to this flower and vine one. I thought the colors were very Provence.

This is my Lizzie! She's very dollhouse tiny! She doesn't even weigh 3 lbs. She never poses for pictures. This is the first time she's smiled for the camera! LOL! Lizzie will be 2 years old next month. I just thought you might like to meet her.

Since I last posted, I finished the painting of the dollhouse.  I installed the door and windows. And I added vines.

I made a few pots. I've been  looking for dry lavender, but that's been hard to find!! I'm so shocked. I thought I would find it everywhere. I still have a couple of stores to go look at though.

I think this little curtain turned out well. I used jewelry jump rings to hang them off a piece of wire so it can move just like the real one.

I painted these little "tiles" with a random pattern.

Next, I'll be shopping for fabric. I need a little valance in the front window and the curtain for the side window.

I finished putting the tile roof on the dollhouse and I aged it.

I had the idea of having a lot of mortar stuffed between the tiles. I think it looks very rustic.

I also gave the plaster a couple of coats of the paint. It's a very yellow cream color. It looks like margarine. I am going to age this paint later.

I painted the inside plaster the same color.

I am working on a Terra Cotta tile roof for this dollhouse. I want a really rustic roof. So the perfect plastic Spanish tiles from the dollhouse shop wasn't gonna do it. So I tried using the pine shingles.

First, I soaked the pine shingles in a orange water bath.

Then I used the hot tip of the glue gun to shape the tiles into a dome shape.

I set the tile with some hot glue inside to make sure they keep their shape.

Next, I loaded the tile with plaster.

I glued a strip of scalloped cardboard on the edge of the roof to support the first row of tiles. And I put plaster behind it for even more support.

We'll see how this turns out!

My next dollhouse project is a stone and stucco cottage you might find in the south of France. My inspiration for this one is L'assiette  de Marie a restaurant in St.Remy de Provence which appeared in Victoria Magazine in August 1998.

I love the atmosphere this place has. My house will hopefully capture the same charm.

I have cut out my windows and made the floor which will be the traditional terra cotta square tile.

This is the stone side of the house. I'm applying the concrete here. It's just like frosting a cake.

The front is stucco.

And this side has stone and stucco.

Inside, 2 walls are stucco and 1 wall stone.

The ceiling is wood Popsicle sticks. 

I painted inside and out with a cream primer.

A Beach Theme Tote

While looking for a missing piece of jewelry, I found another bag to finish. I had totally forgotten about this tote. I decided to give it a beach theme.

I have these fabulous sea stars all over the house and I decided to put one on a bag. With the roses and satin ribbons I think it looks very romantic.

A Shabby Chic Dollhouse Coffee Table

I made the coffee table! That was too much fun to resist.

This is myfavorite detail. I made a needlepoint little sampler. It's a work half done with french knot roses. I used a little piece of wire that I glued into the fabric and attached the string to it.

I made the nest from moss and stuck 3 pearls as eggs. That's a little notepad in front of the nest.

These little projects are very addictive!
