A Place to Create Dollhouse

My new dollhouse is called "A Place to Create." It was commissioned by Deby.
Like the last dollhouse(La Maison de Ville), it's another modified Ballerina Cottage. But this one has a French door.
And this dollhouse is furnished. A workshop/craft room downstairs and a place to relax upstairs. Nothing is glued down. Not even the curtain rods. I just used putty.
The only piece I didn't make here is the chair. But I did paint it and added a cushion.
I love this blue wallpaper! I found it in the scrapbook isle at Hobby Lobby. It's such a great shabby chic backdrop.
I made this large work desk.  It's 6" long with 3 working drawers. That's a little trash can next to the chair.
I made most of the stuff on there. Just not the glass jar or coke bottle.
Deby works with papier mache and also sculpts. So I put some clay, flour and unfinished pieces there.
My little watercolor set was super easy to make. I cut a rectangle piece of clay and pressed the end of a square stick into it to make the indentations where the paint goes. The paintbrush is also made of clay. That little measuring stick was a gift with mini purchases. Came at the perfect time!
I made a shelf to hold crafting supplies.
And I made a miniature sewing machine! I had not tried before and I didn't think it would work out. But it did! I just cut out the shape in a block of clay. Let the clay dry and sand. Then I cut out a base out of wood and sanded it. Attached with hot glue to the top piece. Paint and gloss. Done!
A cozy bed to rest.  The covers are glued down to give a messy look. Essential for coziness!
Here's the place empty.
Another fun little build done!
Ready for a Gigie update?
Gigie had a cold. I took her to the vet last Friday. She got a shot and eye drops. She never acted like she was sick. But her left eye was watery. So I took her in just to make sure nothing serious was going on. She's fine! :)
Of course she's taken to sleeping in my all white, Pottery Barn linen bedding. LOL! The girl's got taste!
Thank you for dropping by!
hugs♥,

  1. This is one of my favorite designs for sure. It's architecture is gorgeous. Very French/Parisian.

I hope Gigie gets over her cold. My three dogs had a cold for all of last week. (We think they caught it from my brother's dogs, who caught it from a dog they were fostering one weekend). Little Gigie is a very pretty cat. Very feminine and very photogenic. I've always loved fluffly cats. I MISS having a cat around so much.

  5. Another wonderful cottage. Your talents only continue to grow. I am so glad to hear the little Gigi is better. Little ones are always delicate, needing a watchful eye. I wish I had your ability to use clay. Perhaps I should just try.

  15. I forgot to ask you a question that I've been meaning to ask. I made my first fairy house the other day (so much fun and addictive!) and I've always wanted to make a dollhouse; a small, inexpensive one. You've mentioned before that you'd recommend using kits whenever you can, and that some of the lower end priced one's can even be well made. I've been perusing kits online and am so confused, so in your expertise... which brand/company is the safest bet? (If there is such a thing). I don't want to spend a lot of money, and I want it to be a simple one. (I'd be a beginner). I was really curious about Greenleaf in particular. Thanks for any advice. I do appreciate it and hope it isn't a bother.

I also forgot to mention that I love the rose wallpaper that you used.

    1. Great question Kristin! The easiest kits to put together quickly are by far the ones by Real Good Toys or Melissa & Doug. Here's a Melissa & Doug that's really easy and cute to do: http://www.overstock.com/Crafts-Sewing/Melissa-Doug-The-House-that-Jack-Built-Kotton-Kandy-Dollhouse/5949579/product.html
It has the siding already milled in! Love it. These 2 companies(Melissa&Doug and RealGoodToys) do MDF construction. It's thicker but ready to go! Fast builds for sure so you can get to the decor!
But if you want to make structural changes then I love the Primrose kit by Corona. The walls are thin so you can cut out extra windows or doors.I've heard people complain that it's flimsy and you have to sand a lot. But I make so many changes to it that I don't care about the quality. I only like it because I can do massive changes to it. It's cheap for sure. You can find it for $10-$14 online. (The Primrose was my very first dollhouse I ever built. So it can be done!)

The 2 first companies are your best bet for quality. But the price can be big. You have to watch Ebay and for discount coupons on other sites. But these are the ones with easy instructions and not many parts. These are usually over $80 though. I have found some of these kits at Tuesday morning before for $50. But watch online sites. Sometimes they just want to get rid of stock.
      hugs♥,
      Caroline

  21. Thank You! You've certainly given me a lot to think about. I'd definitely have to give the lower-priced kits a chance first. (That Melissa/ Doug kit is gorgeous, but unfortunately way too expensive for me. The Primrose is more like it, and I had no idea that they made 'additions' to other kits that can also be stand alone houses). I used to live just a couple minutes away from a Tuesday Morning Inc, but now live sort of in the boonies. I'll have to look up online where the closest one to me is. I wish we had miniature shops around here! (Of course, I'd be broke then. Lol!) Thank you so much for your help. I appreciate it very much!

  22. Hi Caroline! I would LOVE to be able to do my crafts in your sunny and french style cottage! Everything inside is so welcoming and you have planned the big craft table so that it will accommodate many different projects at once! The exterior is finished so Beautifully too and the creeping vines are the perfect accent for the mellow plaster walls. Delightful both inside and out! :D

  25. Oh my goodness, this is fantastic!!! That little sewing machine, holy heck...I don't even know how your mind thinks these things up!!! Every little detail is absolutely stunning! I found a little house kit on Etsy for only $40, it's from the 80's I think and I'm considering buying it. It would be fun to attempt and if I fail, then I didn't spend a fortune right!

Poor Gigie, hope she's doing okay!

  45. It might be challenging to locate a Men's Gifts that genuinely satisfies the interests of the guys in our lives, but the satisfaction is worth it when you do. You may find various men's presents to suit different interests, from elegant accessories to personalised items to modern gadgets. The expression of gratitude on my brother's face when he opened the personalised leather wallet I gave him not long ago was priceless. Finding that special, personalised present that speaks to their character is essential.
